ATM Removable &
Removable/Reusable Rumble Strip
Application
Instructions
|
| |
|
|
• Asphalt must be fully cured, typically 48 hours old.
• Air and surface temperature must be 40°F (5°C) and rising.
• ATM REMOVABLE PRIMER IS TO BE USED UNDER THE FOLLOWING MARGINAL CONDITIONS:
- When air or surface temperatures are expected to fall below 40°F (5°C) within 24 hours of installation.
- If rain is expected within 24 hours after installation, ATM does not recommend installation, and doing so will void
the warranty. ATM also understands certain situations require installation outside of our recommendations. In such
cases, ATM primer should always be used.
- When road surfaces are marginal. See ATM Surface Guide at www.trafficmarking.com
• Surface must be completely dry and confirmed by a moisture bag test.
• Surface must be free of any contaminants such as oils, grease, sand, dirt, dust, loose aggregate, curing compound,
mud, soil and salt.
• Portland Cement concrete curing compound must be completely removed by brushing, grinding, or sandblasting
the road surface.
• Do not apply strips directly on seams, joints, deteriorating markings or substrates.
• Do not overlap strips, always use butt joints.
• Peel the protective cover from the adhesive on the back of the strip and place the strip on the properly prepared road surface.
• Firmly tamp strip in the same direction as strip was applied using an approved tamper cart with a minimum of 200 lb.
(90 kg) load. Never twist the tamper cart during tamping. Repeat tamping as necessary to insure strip has completely
conformed to road surface and all edges are firmly adhered.
• When removing, pull strip at a 90° angle to the pavement.
• After installation is completed, roadway can be open to traffic immediately.
REUSABLE RUMBLE STRIP APPLICATION:
The rumble strips come with adhesive already on the strips for the first installation. They are to be applied using
standard application procedures. Apply strips to road surface and tamp with tamper cart and weights three times
in both directions.
REDRESSING APPLICATION:
• Lay Rumble Strip face down with adhesive side up. Remove any large pieces of pavement, rocks, or debris from the
adhesive that may have resulted in the removal of the strip.
• Unroll paper backed redressing adhesive about 4 – 6 inches to expose adhesive.
DO NOT REMOVE PAPER BACKING!
• Stick the exposed end of adhesive to the up side of the strip on top of the old adhesive. Center the strip as
well possible.
• Roll out the adhesive while tamping and smoothing the adhesive to the back of the Rumble Strip with other hand or
have second person help while unrolling the adhesive
.
• Cut the adhesive and paper backing at the end of the Rumble Strip.
• Rub hand over paper backing to further tamp adhesive to the back of the Rumble Strip.
• Slowly remove paper backing from Rumble Strip leaving adhesive on the back of the strip.
• Reapply Rumble Strip to road surface and continue with standard application procedures.
Reusable Rumble Strips are intended for only 4 redressings for a total of 5 installations. Any additional use will result in
adhesive buildup causing severe adhesive transfer to road surface, line swimming, and potential de-bonding.
